In a nutshell …

Backspace is a local 4-piece outfit formed in 2005. The band first started as a weekend project back in 2001. Two college friends (Roy and Jo) found themselves cooped up in a small studio somewhere in Lavender playing nameless songs with no proper endings or beginnings. After several false starts and enough line-up changes to rival the Wu-Tang Clan, the band finally fell into place with Leonard and Tong completing the picture.

After playing together for several months, the band started work on their debut EP. The EP was recorded, mixed and mastered at Blackisle Studios between November 2005 and March 2006.

The music combines indie pop sensibilities with a dreamy sense of melancholy, drawing influences from bands like the Cure, Lowgold, Teenage Fanclub and Smashing Pumpkins, and centres around themes of love lost, relationships and loneliness.

The EP is entitled The Lavender Room as a footnote to the place where it all began.
